Oh! What a wonderful sight! Mrs. Dickinson's room is offered with ornate displays. It had antiques of elephants and deer tusks. A huge wall clock with a dangling pendulum oscillating off and on. The ornates were well cared for and seemed to date back decades ago. The huge semicircle lamp glowed and lit up the room with a dim light. Somehow all this was very enticing. It was out of the blue, unimaginable and very exciting.
The wooden stand in the corner is stacked with old books authored by Enid Blyton. Shakespeare, William Blake, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens threw light on her voracious reading habits. Though the book seemed old was well maintained.
In the opposite corner, there was a closet of sewing articles like Croquettes table tablecloths, centrepieces, handmade cushions, embroidered handkerchiefs and some beautiful soft toys. These items are very fascinating to the eyes. I felt like I was in a handicraft store showcasing various embroidered articles.
Besides this closet, there was an antique sofa, which was well-carved, where Mrs. Dickinson spent her leisure hours stitching items. This sight of the antique sofa made me experience that the world of yonder years is better than the modern stressful world.
Against the wall was a huge bed with an embroidered bedsheet and a lovely pillow with flowers printed on the cover. The blanket was pure white and fluffy. The bed was made of teak wood and hence was strong and durable. The potpourri gave a sweet fragrance, which welcomed the visitors. I felt I was on top of the world, enjoying the luxurious sight.
The elaborate room filled one with awe because though Mrs Dickinson was old yet she worked hard to keep the room spic and span. There was not a speck of dust on the furniture. The round table in the centre of the room was the dining table where Mrs D enjoyed her sumptuous meals day in and day out. All in all, Mrs. D's room was a pleasant sight. It made me feel welcomed and delighted to visit her often, whenever I had the time to do so.
