To what extent has society become too influenced by advertising?

Advertisements are either videos or posters, which are made to promote products and businesses. The video is usually of 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It is a creative way of advertising to attract customers, to purchase their product.

Advertisements are quicker and more efficient ways of earning money. These ads can be viewed while watching a video on a multimedia streaming platform. OTT platforms such as YouTube, Zee5 and many more provide free ads in between the film or series. It is their strategy, from where if a person wants to remove the advertisements (promos) need to pay a huge sum of money, meaning taking subscriptions to the platform, to disable the ads. Some ads are showcased on websites as posters or moving pictures, also known as GIFs.

There are people involved in ads to attract customers quickly. Such people are known as ambassadors. Ambassadors are mainly popular celebrities or sportsmen. Few of the famous celebrities have spoken out that they are highly paid to play their role according to the script given.

The script created is sometimes threatening to the viewers, as it demotivates them. There are multiple ways of discrimination shown, such as the 'Fair and Lovely Cream' and 'Colgate Toothpaste', which makes us glow. This advertisement makes viewers feel that they are ugly and need to use these products to be much prettier. There is one more advertisement, where the bride eats Perk (chocolate), which makes her feel lighter, which is not true, the chocolate may contain harmful substances such as food sweeteners, colours and carbohydrates, which will make our body more heavier. Society gets irritated when 1 ad is repeatedly shown to him/her many times, which results in purchasing the product. Society wants to know more about the things shown in the advertisement.

These advertising techniques are not only observed in India but in other countries too. Even though these ads are the shorter version of the film (similar to movie trailers), it is not good as it showcases discrimination. I personally get too influenced when my favourite star requests me to use the product, but it's the biggest scam. Such things should be reduced to make our natural body to be loved by us, like in earlier days, when no advertising sources were available.
