Core Principles of Design

Every great design rests on a foundation of timeless principles. These guide how elements interact, balance, and communicate meaning visually.

- Balance: The even distribution of visual weight within a composition, creating stability and harmony.
- Contrast: The pairing of elements with opposing attributes, light and dark, large and small, to draw attention and create emphasis.
- Movement: The visual path that guides the viewer’s eye through lines, edges, or colour transitions.
- Proportion: The relative scale of elements, ensuring they feel cohesive and well‑related within the design.
- Repetition: The deliberate use of similar elements in sequence to build rhythm and consistency.
- Unity: The sense of completeness achieved when all parts of a design work together harmoniously.

Design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating visual order that communicates purpose and emotion.
