Math Short Notes: Boats & Streams

Boats and Streams  

- Boat speed = x, Stream speed =  y, (where ( x > y )).  

- Downstream (same direction):  

  D = x + y 

- Upstream (opposite direction):  

  U = x - y  

- Speed of boat in still water:  

  x = 1/2 x (D + U) 

- Speed of stream:  

  y = 1/2(D - U)  

- Conversion: km/h → m/s = multiply by 5/18.
