Madhubani (Indian Art)

Madhubani, also known as Mithila painting, is a traditional folk art from northern India. It’s mainly created by women in villages, who have handed down this craft through generations. These paintings often draw from mythological and folk stories. Common themes include love, bravery, devotion, and fertility, so you’ll often see scenes of courtship, weddings, and symbols like fish, parrots, elephants, turtles, the sun, moon, bamboo, and lotus images representing fertility and prosperity. Though this art has been around for centuries, it has only gained widespread national recognition in recent decades.
