Key Notes  

- Avoir is the most common auxiliary verb in passé composé.  

- Être is used with verbs of movement and change of state (often called “Dr & Mrs Vandertramp” verbs).  

- Agreement: with être, the past participle agrees in gender and number with the subject (e.g., elle est allée, ils sont allés).
