Geography

Continents & Oceans

  • 7 Continents → large, continuous landmasses separated by water.
  • 5 Oceans → Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, Arctic.

Latitude & Longitude

  • Equator (0° latitude): imaginary line dividing Earth into Northern & Southern Hemispheres.
  • Latitude: lines running parallel to the Equator (measure north/south).
  • Prime Meridian (0° longitude): imaginary line dividing Earth into Eastern & Western Hemispheres, runs through London.
  • Longitude: lines running from the North Pole to the South Pole (measure east/west).

Hemispheres

  • South of Equator → Southern Hemisphere (°S)
  • North of Equator → Northern Hemisphere (°N)
  • North Pole → 90° N
  • South Pole → 90° S
  • East of Greenwich → Eastern Hemisphere (°E)
  • West of Greenwich → Western Hemisphere (°W)
