ISCII

What is ISCII?  

- ISCII stands for Indian Script Code for Information Interchange.  

- It was developed to support Indian languages on computers.  

Languages Supported  

- Devanagari  

- Tamil  

- Bangla  

- Gujarati  

- Gurmukhi  

- Telugu  

- (and other major Indian scripts)  

Usage  

- ISCII was mainly used by government departments.  

- Before it could gain widespread adoption, a new universal standard called Unicode was introduced.  

- Unicode eventually replaced ISCII because it works across all platforms, programs, and languages.
